Redaction for law firms
§ 203 · local · EU-hosted
The 2017 reform of § 203 StGB permits cloud outsourcing for professionals bound by secrecy obligations under certain conditions (§ 203 Abs. 3 S. 2 StGB i. V. m. § 43e BRAO). Datenmaske Desktop goes further: redaction runs locally on your machine — client data never leaves your device.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What did the 2017 reform of § 203 StGB change for law firms?
Since the reform, the involvement of participating persons has been possible under statutory and professional-law conditions. Datenmaske Secure follows a local approach: document contents are processed on the Windows workstation.
Can I already use Datenmaske today?
Datenmaske Web supports auditable redaction processes and provides a DPA. However, the published TOMs do not cover client secrets protected under § 203 StGB. For this, Datenmaske Secure is intended for early access: PDF, OCR, detection and redaction run locally on the Windows workstation.
Is the PDF redaction irreversible?
Yes. Datenmaske permanently removes text content from the PDF — not just visually. The redacted data cannot be recovered after export. This meets the requirements for effective anonymisation within the meaning of the GDPR.
Is usage really free of charge at the moment?
Yes. Datenmaske is in its development phase; during this time no payments are processed or billed. You can currently use the product free of charge and without obligation.
Are my documents processed securely?
The primary hosting is located in Germany; transmission is TLS-encrypted. For OCR and optionally as an NER fallback stage, Azure services in configured EU regions are used. Documents are automatically deleted after the selected retention period. The responsible party assesses the legal permissibility of the specific use.
Secure early access to the § 203 desktop edition.
